Thanks

What a great celebration we had at our Multicultural Day yesterday.  A big thanks to everyone who supported us and contributed food for the shared lunch, dressed in their national costume and visited classrooms sharing activities, games, stories and music from their home countries.  The children looked fantastic in their outfits.  Our assembly was well received - the Japanese drums and the Chinese martial arts items were loudly applauded by everyone.  What great talent we have in our community!  

Our multicultural day is nearly here!

So many of our students are looking forward to next Monday, 23 February, and I hope the families are too!  This is a great opportunity for the various cultures that we have at Oaklands to share food, national costumes, songs, games, stories, flags, national anthems etc.  Please help your child prepare for the day and feel free to talk to your child's class teacher about how you might be able to help during the morning or any ideas that you may have for a class or group activity.  Remember that families are welcome to the assembly at 2.00 pm.  Our school has students from diverse backgrounds and this is a great time to celebrate our diversity.

Next Parent Meeting

Our next parent meeting will be held in Room 14 at 9.00 am on Wednesday 18 February.  This will be our last opportunity to finalise what is happening on Multicultural Day (Monday 23 February). Please come and support us.  Mrs Kingston and I look forward to seeing you there. 

Celebrating Cultural Diversity at Oaklands - Multicultural Day on 23 February

Thank you to those parents who came to our parent meeting on Wednesday 4 February to discuss planning for our special day.  It was great to see parents so enthusiastic about contributing ideas for this day.  We would love others to offer as well and you are most welcome to contact me by replying to this blog or coming to see me in my room (which is the office beside Room 14).  We will have another meeting in Room 14 on Wednesday 18 February at 9.00 am to finalise details, but I would love any offers of support or help before then.

Welcome to the new school year.

The new school year is almost here and I hope you have all had a restful holiday and have had time to enjoy the fabulous weather.  Just to remind you that we will have a meeting on Wednesday 4 February at 9.00 am in Room 14 for all parents who are interested in supporting our Multicultural Day on 23 February.  We need as many parents as possible to come to the meeting ready to discuss and finalise our ideas.  Thank you to those of you who have already offered help.  This is your chance to showcase your culture to the school, so please make time to come.
